The Mikveh Monologues
was created in 2004-2005 by internationally acclaimed author Anita Diamant and director Janet Buchwald. The play is based on interviews with men, women and children who have marked a personal life transition by immersing in a mikveh. In the spring of 2006 Diamant and Buchwald created The Mikveh Monologues II featuring all new stories and songs.
The Mikveh Monologues shares the touching stories of people’s immersion experiences, teaches about the potential for this ritual, and engages the whole Jewish community in a conversation about the power of ritual in contemporary life. The performance is accessible and moving, as only theater art can be; it is a form of outreach in the broadest sense in that it teaches about the fundamental humanity of all ritual.
Tonight Shira Kline, Jake Goodman, and Janet Buchwald will perform a modified version of The Mikveh Monologues at a national gathering of Jewish educators and community professionals who are all grant recipients of The Covenant Foundation.
